This activity is for any teacher who is looking for a strategy to help students to become better at the open-ended/extended response writing questions that they face on standardized state tests. My students like the template/graphic organizer so much that most choose to recreate it on their scrap paper during testing.
This product includes:
An original Moon Madness reading passage about myths and mistaken beliefs that people have had about the Moon. It is one page, single spaced type. (appoximately 500 words)
A Moon Madness prompt/response page
A S(T)ART template/graphic organizer sheet that can be used for almost any reading passage and writing prompt.
A miniature S(T)ART poster that explains the strategy. The strategy is simple and is easily applicable to almost any writing prompt.
All sheets have a VERY THOROUGH answer key provided.
This was designed to aid students in PA state testing, but this can be used with any writing prompts that ask students to cite examples from informative writing or reasons for persuasive essays. The strategy is general and would really apply to any extended response prompt. It also slips in a little science content for good measure!
