This interactive card sort activity is a great way to introduce/review moon phases and the lunar cycle and address common misconceptions.
This engaging activity can be used as an interactive notebook activity (glue down matches) /center, small group, or whole group assignment to review/assess moon phases, and address misconceptions.
This activity includes Illustrated Moon Phases, Moon Phase Labels, Sun & Earth models, 2 Student Response Sheet Options, and Key.
How it Works
Teacher will print out card sort pages to be used in variety of ways (ideas listed in instructions). Teacher can choose to have students simply match cards or create lunar cycle model. One student response sheet allows students to illustrate, describe, and label moon phases as viewed from Earth. The other student response sheet helps to address misconceptions about the moon by examining the difference between the view from Earth and what is actually occurring in Space. Teacher will print out one Student Response Sheet for each student. Use Key to check work.
