(10 pages) This is an excellent hands-on activity for modeling moon phases. Students will cut out and assemble the simple parts of this model. Then, using the assembled parts, students can model different moon phases. In addition, the model helps each student visualize and understand why different moons are seen at different times (moonrise and moonset times). The materials needed for this Moon Phase Model will be easy to find, and students can work in small (2 or 3 person) cooperative groups to complete it by the end of one class period.
