This is a planning guide for Morning Meeting in the first month of school. Responsive Classroom's official structure of Morning Meeting includes a Greeting, a Share, an Activity, then a Message - but you can use this document even if you're just looking for some fun start-of-school games. All game and greeting descriptions are included.
What I like best about this guide is that it shows you what students need in Week 1 versus what they need in Week 4 - and how to get from the first week to the fourth! At the very start of the year, focus on activities that help students introduce themselves and shares that every kid can do. Later on, you can transition into activities that require whole-class cooperation and individual student shares. This guide shows you how to finesse that transition and give students the skills and practice they need bit by bit.
: These ideas are tried and tested with upper elementary, but I could see many of them also working for younger or older kids, and the transition plan would remain the same no matter the age.
: When you go to print, click on the drop-down that says "Full Page Slides" and select both Scale to Fit Paper and High Quality. This will make your printouts look nicer! You can also choose Grayscale or Pure Black and White under the "Color" menu to print without the watercolor backgrounds.
Please let me know how it goes for you and good luck with the start of your year!
