Poem of the Week & Morning Meeting Plans for the Month of August- K-1 Edition
This is a Poem of the Week and Morning Meeting Bundle that you can use for the month of August!

Poem of the week is a great way to develop reading fluency, comprehension, sight word recognition and confidence in reading. It's also a great tool to review your weekly skills and standards through shared reading and writing. Poems are great for students in Kindergarten or First Grade. This packet also includes morning meeting plans for the entire month of August! Morning meeting helps to build a strong classroom community while teaching important social and emotional skills that will help students succeed.

There are 3 weekly, thematic poems for each month of August that include morning meeting plans (greeting, share, and activity plans) for every day in August. All plans reflect learning goals that tie to the weekly reading. Every greeting, share, and activities are already planned and ready for you to use! You just have to print and go! No prep necessary! No more looking for items to use during your morning meetings :)
There are also daily/weekly lesson plan ideas to use with the poems during your shared reading/ message block. I have also included center ideas that will last the entire year! This center is a classroom favorite!

These poems are great to use for Shared Reading, the message portion of Morning Meeting, literacy centers, whole group, small group, fluency practice and phonics.

The poems in this August packet focus on community building in your classroom. The themes for the poems and the morning meeting activities are: Friends, Names, and Colors.
They include poems, greetings, and activities that will reinforce classroom rules and expectations. The activities/games have a "focus" each day. Some examples of the focus are: making eye contact, being an active listener, good sportsmanship, etc. I have also included ideas for review and teaching content with the poems.

Some games and activities can take time. If you are in a time crunch, I suggest choosing 2-3 activities each week to teach and reusing them to save time! They are all community based, so if you don't have time to use some of them during Morning Meeting, then you can use them as time fillers throughout the day!
