Morning QC! - Cycle Through Reading Skills - Kindergarten
Morning QC! - Cycle Through Reading Skills – Kindergarten is designed to be used as a quick check (QC!) by students to daily review and reinforce reading skills for students in kindergarten. Morning QC! - Cycle Through Reading Skills – Kindergarten will help keep reading skills fresh in the minds of students. Morning QC! - Cycle Through Reading Skills – Kindergarten works well with English Language Learners (ELLs). It helps ELLs develop their use of the English language and become more proficient.
Each Morning QC! - Cycle Through Reading Skills – Kindergarten student practice sheet has four exercises that practice a specific reading skill. A new practice sheet is presented to the students each school day during the school year. There are a total of 192 student practice sheets with a total of 768 exercises.
These are the same practice exercises as are found in the Introduce/
Practice/Assess products for Kindergarten.
The Morning QC! – Cycle Through Reading Skills – Kindergarten provides you with data to show whether or not a student has retained and/or mastered a specific reading skill. As the skills are revisited throughout the school year, the data gathered from the practice sheets can show if a student continues to show retention and/or mastery of a specific reading skill or not. This data can provide you with information to help decide if a student may need additional help with learning a specific reading skill. This is helpful if your school is using Response to Intervention processes.
Many of the practice exercises ask for a student to work with a partner. The partner often is to read the word, sentence, or passage out loud to the student. Many of the words, sentences, or passages may be on too high of a reading level for the student to read on his or her own. That is why the exercise is conducted with a partner. You may be the partner. You may have an older student from a higher grade come in and be the partner. You may use parent volunteers to be the partner.
Each of the nine weeks’ worth of Morning QC! - Cycle Through Reading Skills – Kindergarten will review reading skills from kindergarten. There are 48 kindergarten reading skills. Each of the kindergarten reading skills will be practiced four times during the school year (one time per nine weeks). The four practice sheets for each reading skill are presented together. You can print and copy the first practice sheet for the reading skill during the first nine weeks, print and copy the second practice sheet during the second nine weeks, print and copy the third practice sheet during the third nine weeks, and print and copy the fourth practice sheet during the fourth nine weeks. There are more Kindergarten reading skills practice sheets than days in the school year. Students can work on two or more practice sheets several times during the nine weeks to insure that the students get to practice all of the Kindergarten reading skills.
Each practice sheet includes the reading skill and four questions. Some sheets have answer choices included while some answers must be provided by the students. Answer keys are included. A Student Progress Checklist is also included. This allows teachers to keep track of how each student is progressing with each reading skill. Mastery of the reading skills is shown with 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 4 practice questions per exercise sheet answered correctly. Non-mastery is shown with 0 out of 4, one out of four, or two out of four practice questions per exercise answered correctly.
The exercises may be presented to students in any order based on each school district’s specifications.
