Take the work out of morning work for you the teacher! Morning Work For 2nd Graders covers...

- Place Value
- Addition / Subtraction
- Model the number
- Word form
- Expanded form
- Sight words / dolch words
- Punctuation
- Capitalization
- Sentence writing

When I put this product together I had my 2nd graders in mind, just thinking about concepts that they need to be solid in. Being able to represent a number in multiple ways is a must! Also, being able to write sentences using correct capitalization and punctuation is a must.

In my book Keep Calm and Teach On I talk about having a set morning work ready for students, where you don’t have to think about what will your students be doing each morning or making copies every morning for morning work. This product takes the work out of morning work for you. I suggest dividing the sheets into packets that last 2-3 weeks.

The first week or so you will have to direct teach how to fill out the sheet, but students will quickly be able to work it out on their own.
In the Model The Number section students are expected to draw out base-ten blocks. Emphasize the importance that the one hundred block can’t look (be the same size square) like the one block, and that lines will work for the tens. If students represent the ten stick with the individual lines for the ones within the ten they often incorrectly represent the ones, so I just teach my students to represent the ten as one line/stick.

Thanks to Ms. Perkins (http://www.mrsperkins.com/dolch.htm) for her list of dolch words and nouns used within this product. The dolch words within this product starts with 1st grade words, then 2nd grade words, and then 3rd grade words. At the end I use words from the noun list on Ms. Perkin’s site. Also thanks to Stephanie Roths for the chevron background.
