Rational:

Teachers know that reading starts with phonemes and morphemes; word-part sounds and word-part meanings. Students often master phonemes early on in their reading careers, but morphemes continue to play a (sometimes larger) role as students dive deeper into academia, including standardizes tests, and tier 2 and 3 academic vocabularies. I created this unit for my Multilingual Learners in grade 9 through grade 12 to help them employ language across all academic content areas.

This product:

This product includes multiple activities that systematically expose students to the top most frequent morphemes in English. This product supports the learning of morphemes through application, practice, and student ownership of word parts. This product includes three different “sets” which each have a different focus and take one school week to complete.

This product includes:

· Frayer Model notes (printing options for saving paper)

· “Examples in text” worksheet

· Original reading activities for all three sets

· Writing activities for all three sets (2 versions, for differentiation)

· Quizzes for all three sets

· Foldable notes

· Quizlet links for all three sets; use for studying and games
