Bored of the same old coil pot ceramics lesson? I was too! Until I challenged my students to create morphing coil pots that changed shape! The students really enjoy this project, and each vessel turns out completely different!
This lesson can last a week or two, depending on how much building time you allow. I found it was successful to introduce it on a Thursday or Friday, and follow with an uninterrupted week of building, so the pieces don't dry out over a weekend.
This lesson includes a distribution-ready project rubric with student instructions and evaluation criteria, and it also contains a self-assessment for student self-reflection and instructor evaluation/grading at the conclusion of the project.
