A great lesson to get students to introduce themselves to you and their classmates. Personally, I have used this introductory activity in my ESL and Special Education classrooms. I have also used this activity as a diagnostic activity for my ELLs to formatively assess their oral communication skills. I tend to leave up the mosaic for the whole semester. Another extension piece is to have students write one goal they have for the semester/year on the back of the tile and then return the tile to them at the end of the year to see if they met their goal!
