Centers don't have to be just for elementary classrooms anymore. Here's why:
Centers allow for targeted skills.
Centers are student led.
The hardest part of implementing centers in the secondary classroom is the time it take to create all of them. But with this 22 page .pdf, all you have to do is make the copies. Ideally, this should be used after students have read the story. The targeted skills include symbolism, mood, literary terms (simile, metaphor, etc), vocabulary, expository essay organization, theme, diction, point-of-view, author's style, and types of characters.
This material can be used in the span of 3 days all the way to two weeks depending on how you choose to use them.
