This text overview opens with a summary of the story and includes page by page analysis that revolve around two major themes. The overview includes (in one column) how the author develops the theme in specific sections of the novel and (in the other column) the specific skills that reader must master/possess to understand the theme the author is attempting to convey. It provides page by page analysis of the story linked directly to ELA skills such as analyzing mood, setting, characters actions, point of view, imagery, etc. The overview also includes major questions (all essay) that should be asked at the end of each section--they are coined Daily Response Questions or "DRQ"s as well as 2 major "over-arching" that are can be used as final, longer essays at the end of the story. These questions are directly aligned to the two major themes that are analyzed throughout the text overview. The entire unit including every lesson is backwards aligned to leading the student to understanding the tow themes set forth in the text overview. Each lesson is also backward aligned meaning the essay questions at the end were written first, then the guiding questions were written to help the student align his/her analysis for the end-of-lesson question. After both of these were created, I created active reading charts for annotating and ensuring the student was finding the correct information as the story was being read.
This is entire Unit/Story overview completed for you to edit and use as you please!
