PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a writing activity that asks students to research Margaret Mitchell, Jesse Owens, and Duke Ellington in order to give an award for the historical figure who has had the greatest impact on American Culture.

I have created this file to use in my 5th Grade Reading and Social Studies Class. It integrates many of the Common Core Reading: Informational Text Standards, as students are asked to research historical figures. In order to do this, they must read and synthesize new information. Students must then make a claim and support their reasoning using their research.

I have used this as an Early Finishers Task, but it could also be used as a writing activity.
