This is used daily as a math warm up. I change the content as the year progresses. This one includes 5th grade standards to ease the transition between grades. I use it for spiral review, preview, and for remediation. I may include patterns so on Friday when students reflect on the week's work we can talk about the patterns and how they helped them understand things like place value. The format changes to include word problems about a third of the way through the year.
Students come in get out their MMM (Mostly Mental Math) when they enter the classroom. Some students complete it before we correct it and some do not. They are asked to correct it by putting a slash through an answer that is wrong and writing in the correct one. There is no penalty for getting the answer incorrect, only for not writing in the correct answer. I do this so I have a little accountability.
The papers are handed in on Friday so I can just briefly check them and then they go in their portfolio. During preparation for student-led conferences they organize them by date and reflect on their progress and use them as evidence of improved key skills.
If there is interest I will continue to make each weekly MMM available during the year.
