Product Description
If you are working to incorporate more Common Core aligned curriculum into your instruction, you understand the importance of teaching students how to cite evidence to support their thinking. This 21 slide Powerpoint presentation guides students through annotating the popular poem "Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes. It covers devices such as point of view, mood, theme, diction, extended metaphor, and symbols. Each slide is a copy of the poem with relevant evidence highlighted in bold colors to point out the examples. This presentation is intended to be an introduction to annotating and citing evidence. I usually use the presentation when I am introducing how to annotate and cite from texts. In a follow-up lesson, students will refer to their annotations when they cite evidence as they write a short argument about an effective literary technique used by Langston Hughes.
