I have always loved the Mother’s Day coupon idea that has been around forever. It allows kids to personalize their gifts to mom and they are meaningful. With all Moms' do, who wouldn’t want a little help from time to time? This craft takes the coupon idea and updates it with the use of “gift cards” students personalize, as well as other items to be included in the purse.
This Purse comes with templates to make:
Purse with pockets and handle
Gift cards - to be used as coupons. Some printed with categories and a full page of blank ones
Money - You’re Worth…
Photo card for kids to draw their mom and themselves
Happy Mother’s Day insert to use as you wish. I had students colour the letters and draw small pictures that they thought their mom’s would like.
For each student you will need:
1 sheet of 8.5 x 11 Card stock for the body of the purse
1 sheet of 8.5 x 11 Paper for the handles and for embellishments (either plain or decorative will work)
additional sheets of paper or card stock for the contents of the purse. I like using card stock. You choose the cards and other items to include in the purse. Please see the preview.
White glue (works fine) or Glue Dots (works best) I don’t recommend glue sticks as they don’t bond card stock well.
Embellishments (I got mine at the dollar store, but kids can just draw and colour with markers too)
Besides the sheet of blank gift cards, I also have included ones printed with general categories that students could personalize. Included is “Jiffy Wash”, “Happy House Help”, “Yard Work” and “Hugs 4 You”. For example, when having kids personalize the “Jiffy Wash” card I brainstormed with the them what they could wash at home to help out their mom. We talked about washing clothes, windows, dishes, the car or even the dog. I had the kids pick which they were willing to do and that made sense in their house for them to do. We went through this process for each one.
I have kids complete the money with “You’re Worth…” with a 1 and as many tiny zeros as they can fit in the box. At the end I have them add a “+” mark. Students finish it off by drawing a picture of mom in the oval.
I Students draw a photo of their mom, family a favourite place or activity. Then, students add a caption to the blank area beneath. For example”The Lake -Our favourite place”.
Happy Mother’s Day Insert
Students colour, sign the insert with “Love (their name) and may add a few small pictures around the words.
