A Special Mother's Day Keepsake Card and Wall Hanging
Are you looking for a memorable gift for your students to create for Mother's Day? This editable project can be used in a few different ways and, ultimately, the recipient can use the card as a wall hanging if you attach some ribbon. It's sure to be a special keepsake. My students made a version of these last year and I had a feeling the mothers would adore them. I received several emphatic thank you notes from mothers that let me know the gift truly meant a lot to them and it most definitely didn't end up in the trash can!
Here's How it Started for Me
The original idea behind the project involves taking three different photos of your students holding a printed page with a letter on it. When put together they spell "MOM" or "I *heart* U." I enjoyed sending my photos to the lab for this project because the photos were not too expensive and they looked much better than I could do at home unless I bought expensive photo paper and used the best ink-sucking printing quality setting. So, for right around a dollar, plus a few basic supplies from school, I made these!
Here's What it Looks Like for You
I encourage you to look at the preview, found under the product images, because it gives a good idea of the different project options available. The black and white version can be written on, illustrated, and colored by the students. No photo is necessary for this project, but a single photo can be used on top, if desired. The colored versions are intended to be used with 4 by 6 inch photos. I have included files so that you can also use existing photos if you don't have time or energy to take new ones. You will need to have some large (12 by 18 or two strips attached to one another) construction paper or poster board and glue to complete the projects.
There are a couple of options for customizing and printing. If you are planning on printing the files yourself, you can use the editable PowerPoint file to customize the frames. A tutorial is included on how to do this and print from the program. The included png files can be customized in any photo editing program, such as Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro and uploaded to your favorite photo lab for printing. If you don't already have photo editing software, you may want to consider downloading my Pixlr.com Customization Tutorial Freebie before purchasing. This is a free online photo editor and it can help you get the job done effectively.
