This Mother’s Day Unit offers review activities for both algebra and geometry.
The first activity is an algebra review that the students should do in groups. Pass the worksheets face down. They are all to start at the same time. Groups will have 30 minutes to complete the assignment. The group that gets the most answers correct within the allotted time is the winner. Ties are possible. Students who win should receive the Mother’s Day certificate to take home to give to anyone they’d like. Answer Key is included.
The second activity is a geometry review where students practice calculating the area, surface area, and volume of three solids: a cylinder, cube, and rectangular prism. Answer key is included.
The third activity is a web activity that students could complete at school if you have computers or at home. Students have to help Justin order a bouquet of flowers for his mother without going over his $50 budget. Students are to choose four companies to research. They should take into account any discounts or promotion codes that the site offers. At the end, the students should do a print screen right before payment to show proof of their work. They will have four different company quotes and should include a brief explanation as to which company Justin should choose to order from and what he should order.
The fourth activity is an algebra word search. The first five students to complete the worksheet (all 24 terms) will receive a bookmark (included in this unit) to share with their mother or anyone they’d like to. Key is included.
Also included is a Mother's Day certificate that you can duplicate as many times as you need. It’s nice to print it in color and their parents love it! Also, if you have the resources, printing the bookmarks on card stock and cutting them with a paper cutter before laminating them makes a really nice prize. Of course, you can just print them and cut them too.
Hope your students enjoy these activities while reviewing important concepts.
