Mother’s Day can still be acknowledged at the secondary level, but using a different approach. Your students will read a 1917 newspaper article written by Anna Jarvis, credited as the originator of Mother’s Day. Your students will learn that the holiday was not intended to be just about mom and buying gifts. Then, students will respond to text-dependent questions and a persuasive writing activity.
A PDF with the following:
Adapted primary source text with glossary*
Assignment with text-dependent questions*
* Also included as an editable PowerPoint AND Google Slides file
This product is also available in the DISCOUNTED HOLIDAY BUNDLE
Don’t worry about compatibility!
The PowerPoint is saved as a 97-2003 Presentation, which is compatible with versions 1997 and up. Common fonts used are Georgia and Trebuchet MS, so you shouldn’t have problems with wonky text!
