Make this colorful salt candle using baby food jars. Your students will love this project, and it will "wow" your parents.
This STEM product includes a foldable which helps students:
S= Science: understand the difference between a physical change and a chemical change.
T= Technology: There is a technology component with links to Student Friendly sites for center work which allows your students to research the parts of a candle. [I'm also working on a webquest for this~ which should be out soon!]
E= Engineering: This gives your students a chance to demonstrate what they have learned about the science of candles when they create a model of a candle to show their learning.
M= There is actually quite a bit of math involved in the preparation of this project. I've added three multi-step problems for students to solve involving how much salt and wax to purchase, as well as how much string to use in making the wicks.
Start collecting baby food jars to recycle.
This project is also good for your GATE students.
