This packet is the result of coincidental timing: one year, Mother's Day rolled around while my first grade class was in the middle of a unit about circle stories, and we had just read several books by Laura Numeroff to help cement to concept. I had been brainstorming cute and creative gifts my students could make to honor their mothers/caretakers, and came up with the idea of a writing activity in which the kiddos write their own circle stories, based on the book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, but imagine what would happen if you give a MOM a cookie. The project was a HIT with everyone, students and families alike, and having a structure for writing a story helped my little writers to come up with some wonderfully creative ideas. I thought others might have fun with this, too, so I put together a low-prep packet with everything you need to do the activity in your own classroom.

EVERY family is unique and special, so pages have also been included to adapt this Mother's Day writing project for grandmas, aunts, or dads.

Included in this packet, you will find:
* Lesson plans for 4 days of writing lessons
* 1 set of anchor chart materials
* 1 graphic organizer
* 1 set of pages for drawing a portrait of mom, aunt, grandma, or dad
* 1 set of writing pages for mom, aunt, grandma, or dad

I hope this helps you in your classroom, and gets your students EXCITED about writing!
