About SNAPs Lab Stations Activities
SNAPs Lab Stations Activities require students to use science, math, literacy, problem-solving and engineering skills. They are designed to enhance students' understanding of scientific concepts and help students apply scientific ideas to the real world. Each station activity promotes skills so to develop students into proficient and competent scientific thinkers.

SNAPs lab activities have five components:
Science Skills Station to develop science skill proficiency
Narrative Station to build science literacy
Assessment Station to evaluate learning and understanding
Problem-Solving Station to foster engineering design
Synthesis/Summary Project to inspire higher-order learning

A description of the activities at each station in this particular lab is detailed below.

Next Generation Science Standards
This laboratory does not address a specific Next Generation Science Standard, but it complements concepts related to other NGSS. This lab combines the three dimensions of science learning - science and engineering practices, disciplinary core ideas and crosscutting concepts. This laboratory also makes interdisciplinary connections to STEM, Math CCSS and ELA CCSS to build the appropriate skills.

Motion Graphs Lab Stations Activity Learning Objectives
1. Analyze and interpret distance vs. time graphs so to determine an object’s motion.
1. Analyze and interpret velocity vs. time graphs so to determine an object’s motion.
2. Graph an object’s velocity and acceleration so to describe its motion.

Science Skills Station
Students will interpret velocity (distance vs. time) and acceleration (velocity vs. time) motion graphs at this station. They will also graph data in order to create velocity and acceleration motion graphs.

Narrative Station
Students will read an informational text about distance vs. time and velocity vs. time motion graphs. Students will learn to interpret the trends in motion graphs so to determine when an object has an increasing, decreasing or constant velocity (and acceleration).

Assessment Station
At this station, students will answer questions about key terms and ideas relating to distance vs. time and velocity vs. time motion graphs. Students will have to employ lower, mid and higher order thinking skills to answer these questions.

Problem-Solving Station
Students will manipulate a 5-foot track so to mimic the motion of a car visualized in motion graphs. Students will design, test and retest the track so that the car’s motion simulates what is illustrated in the motion graphs.

Synthesis/Summary Project
Students will have a choice of 11 projects. Refer to the SNAPs Lab Stations Best Practices and Setup Guide for directions and suggestions on how to conduct the project.

5 Feet of Hot Wheels™ straight track w/ track connectors (or other toy vehicle track)
Books or blocks (to make a ramp)
