Product Description

These digital or print Motion and Forces 'Mad Lib' Task Cards cover the basics of motion (speed, velocity, acceleration) and forces for the beginning of a physics unit. These are great to use for formative assessment/review during a unit or before a quiz. The questions draw from the Understand, Apply, Analyze, and Evaluate levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy. The topics covered are: the concept of a reference point, balanced and unbalanced forces, net force, units for types of motion/force, definitions and calculations for speed (average versus instantaneous), velocity, acceleration, and deceleration, analyzing basic graphs to describe the motion of an object, definitions of friction, gravity, air resistance, centripetal force, and free fall.

Here's the 'Mad Lib' part: the questions are all multiple choice and each answer choice has a word (a noun, verb, adverb, or adjective) associated with it. The students answer each of the 24 questions and write down the answer letter and answer word that corresponds to their answer choice. Once they have completed all 24 Task Cards, they ask the teacher for the ‘Mad Lib’ text. For this set of Task Cards, the text is the lyrics to “California Dreamin'” by The Mamas and the Papas. (The students don’t realize that they are choosing lyrics from this song while they complete the Task Cards!). The students should add their answer words to the text to complete the assignment. If anyone gets any answers wrong, the song lyrics will reflect this! A great way to quickly review the answers is to actually play the song California Dreamin' and have the students listen for the words that they wrote down in their ‘Mad Lib’ text!

There are two versions of these Task Cards included in the download. One has four Task Cards per page that you can cut apart and tape around your classroom. The students would take their Answer Sheet and a Periodic Table and complete the cards in any order. The other version is a Google Slides version, which makes these digital Task Cards. I have provided the links to the Google Drive version of the task cards, the student answer sheet, the mad lib, and the answer key. Students could complete the Task Cards individually or in partners on a device.

Blank cards are included in case you want to substitute a question of your own!

If you would like to try these Task Cards without the Mad Lib, please check out my Motion and Forces Task Cards Digital or Print!
