Can your students demonstrate their understanding of how forces can change the motion of an object? This activity measures just that! Given written guidelines and a closed note format for writing their hypothesis and their conclusion, young learners can still demonstrate what they know about how forces affect the speed, time or distance an object moves as required by the standard. Experimental format calls for the use of a variety of student chosen objects in order to demonstrate mastery using materials that they understand, to change the force on an object 3 times, to measure the effect on each of the results and to graph and analyze their results. Suggested extension is to have students use this format to video tape their self created demonstrations and discuss their results for documenting performance data for this assessment.
