Exciting activity to introduce motion and velocity in a middle school science classroom!
Student Objective: I can describe and measure the velocity of an object.
Lesson Overview: Students work on establishing a background of motion and velocity vocabulary and calculating the velocity of objects on day one. On day two, students use a stopwatch to time themselves running a specific distance and analyze their results. Are they faster than an ostrich? (And other animals)
This lesson includes a 16 slide Smart Notebook document, a lesson plan overview for teachers, and an activity worksheet to go along with the second day. For those teachers that do not have access / do not use Smart Notebook, I have attached a .pdf.
Science Vocabulary Discussed:
at rest, in motion, velocity, distance, time
Note: Stopwatches are required.
