Routines are important to have in your class. Breaking with a routine from time to time is equally as important.
These 50 ideas can help your classroom from getting "stale" throughout the year. They can help both you and your students bond by letting them know you know how to have some fun and that you respect and acknowledge that they are children.
Some of these ideas include:
*Pass out paper to make special “thinking caps” for the day. This works well if you have a particularly hard topic you are going to teach.
*Sit in one of the student desks and run your classroom there for the day. This is a great way to gain perspective from a student’s view and interact informally with them.
*Have students write a positive message on the board as they walk into the classroom.
Don't worry if some seem too young for your students. The older kids LOVE to do "little kid" activities from time to time. I loved doing them too!
I've used all these ideas when I taught middle school and elementary school. Some are very easy and some may require a little bit of planning. All will help you and your students have a more enjoyable year!
