I really like to call this a motivational & educational reward board. I have done this for a few years and makes learning fun and motivational. I once had a co-worker come in to observe me and she saw how motivating this board was for my kids and she wanted one for her classroom immediately. It`s very simple yet powerful. The kids move so many spaces on their boards every time they answer a question in class or participate. Ya, it's that easy. Then they get a prize every time they get off the board or "island". It "forces" kids to listen and do well resulting in better test scores in an enthusiastic atmosphere. For best results is printing them in color and well worth it especially if you use them all year. If you can, laminate them, too! Detailed instructions for teachers are included.
Your reward boards are not just motivational tools in your classroom but also educational tools.
Social Studies: Mount Bromo on the Island of Java is an actual live volcano in Indonesia. You can teach Geography, History, and even Science around this topic.
Math: Multiplication facts from 1-8 are on the board for the kids to review, as well as a positive/negative XY coordinate grid to use for a Math lesson. The board also has odd and even numbers in different colors for the kids to review these.
Reading/Language: The vowels A, E, I, O, U run vertically on the board along with five acrostic motivational words for the kids to write about or find synonyms to.
