Famous quotes are famous because so many people quote them. Why not your students? A simple exercise, whether in Language Arts or Social Studies, is to have your students copy down a famous quote each week. You are teaching across the curriculum, and they are learning about famous figures in history. I have geared toward personal responsibility themes in my quotes, and have run the gamut across the political spectrum. Coaches, humanitarians, inventors, and scientists are among those I have used. I begin and end each year with the success quote from Harry Wong about the first days of school.
