Similar to my simple sounds activity, these cards were designed to help students practice their sight words. They can be cut, laminated and used in learning center activities but I prefer using them as a whole-group pocket chart game.
I start by placing the cards in a pocket chart. As my munchkins get more fluent with their sight words throughout the year, I add more cards. I randomly choose 3-4 cards and hide a yellow heart behind them. Each student gets a turn to read a card. Once they’ve read, I ask them to come up to the pocket chart and check if there is a yellow heart hiding behind their card. If so, they are rewarded with a little treat such as a lollipop or a small eraser. This little incentive helps keep my students attentive, on-task and motivated. You can also use these cards to create a word wall in your classroom! I hope you enjoy this resource ☺.
