The design of this packet is done with the needs of all in mind, and so the stimulation on the student pages has been limited, the space for answers is significant, and the work is divided in such a way that “packets” are not given. Each student hand out is one page, front and back; this is to help keep kids from feeling overwhelmed, and to help you collect and review student work often enough to use it formatively. I hope you enjoy.
This document is for use in public classrooms or homeschool classrooms to get students thinking more deeply about the books that they are reading. Analysis of texts, author’s purpose, and language are extraordinarily important, and the rigor at which we provide our instruction must match the high expectations we all have for our students. This product is not intended to be a substitute for the awesome teaching you provide, just a tool.
This text is rated as a Lexile 860 book (DRA 34, or a Guided Reading Level O). Recommendations for this text range from 3rd-5th grade depending on the students’ instructional reading levels. I read this with a group of students reading at the 4th grade level and they found the vocab a bit challenging, but they enjoyed it, which is awesome since there is another Ralph book for them to read!
