The purpose of these flash cards is to connect Physical Literacy with Literacy. They can be used in relays to designate how to move during the relay. In a dance unit the cards can be given out in sets such as a locomotor card and a pathway card.
Teach the non-locomotor moves, and then give students a non-locomotor card to add to their set. I start off with the traditional ones of stretch, twist, bend, sway etc. I will add the modern cards latter. As the music plays students do the locomotor and pathway found on their cards. When the music stops count backwards from 10 while students do the movement on the non-locomotor card, when you say ZERO, students freeze in their static pose. Students then switch their entire set of cards with another student and repeat.
