Young children need to move! Use these activities during indoor recess, for brain breaks, or just to get rid of the wiggles before group meeting or circle time!
This pack includes materials needed to play the following games:
Wiggly Worms: This game is tons of fun for little ones! Print one or two sheets of the “Wiggle Worm!” and “Hugs!” labels, cut them out, and place them in a jar or bag. Have students draw a label one at a time, and read what they have drawn. When someone chooses “Wiggle Worm” the entire class has to wiggle. When someone chooses “Hugs” the entire class gives each other one big group hug. This is a great way to use up all of that extra energy, while encouraging kindness and classroom unity!
Tired Fish: Use this game to practice emotions and get out all of their sillies. Cut out each die and put together using clear packing tape for durability. Each child gets to roll both die at the same time. The entire class has to act out the animal and the emotion at the same time. Be prepared for your class to get a case of the giggles!
Magic Movement: This game encourages some new movement and acting skills. There are a couple of ways to play this game. You could have each child draw one from a bag (or magician’s hat!), and everyone does each action together. My class loves when I let them each choose a star, then I stand in the middle of the circle as they all throw their stars at me. The one I catch is the one that we act out!
Ridiculous Relays:Cut out each of these ribbons and stick them in a jar, then let the children pick them, one at a time. Each time a students picks a ribbon, the entire class gets to participate in that relay, with one student completing the action, coming back to the group, tagging the next student, etc. until all of the action ribbons have been completed. This activity will help your students burn off some energy while encouraging patience and waiting their turn.
