Try using a movie clip/footage/video that has been created by other students. One year one of the Photography classes had completed a unit on Horror Films/Film Noir, and had made their own short 4 minute film. As a class we chose which one we would all use, and then I let my students go! You of course can choose to use whatever footage you want.
The results were really pleasing. This year I had a 98% completion rate (the only girl that didn’t complete was in Japan at the time!) All students enjoyed the process and they really enjoyed the flexibility and creativity that this project allowed them.
We used class time to complete this project, with minimal technology. Most of the students used Audacity to record their composition/soundtrack, some used Soundtrap, others just used Windows Movie Maker. I let the students choose the technology that they wanted to use and felt most comfortable with.
The best part of the assignment was the lesson where we all viewed each others work—it was so much fun, many a laugh was had!
