Moving to middle school is a big adventure for many students. I know when I taught fifth grade the biggest question I received from students and parents is how do I make sure they are fully prepared for the transition. That is why I created this activity. It is a simple way to help students build the confidence they need to know they are ready for whatever middle school has to bring. It also helps them see exactly which areas they need to strengthen while in middle school to ensure they are on the correct track.
This activity is directed towards mostly the math content areas. There are some bonus ELA standards of the basic things they need to know to be successful in literacy in their transition as well. There will be a separate download and plan added to my store soon that goes through each and every literacy standard as in depth as the math ones in this plan. However, the basic standards and checklists provided for the ELA CCSS outlined in this plan are very helpful and ensure the right direction for students.
This download has everything you need to help students make an easy transition from elementary school to middle school. The lessons include the Math Common Core State Standards provided in a check list format and easy to understand wording. Teachers can have students work through these exercises on their own at the beginning of middle school or through fifth grade to make sure they are mastering each content area they need to in order to be fully prepared. It serves as a great way to easily differentiate to make sure students are receiving the extra attention in the areas they need. Each standard provides exercises students can check their selves on, or teachers can work through them with their students. If a student is struggling in an area there are additional resources, websites, and activities provided for each standard that students can work through independently to strengthen these skills.
