This isn't your typical vocabulary pack! This pack takes vocabulary activities a step further as students dig deeper within the text Mr. Popper's Penguins to learn the meaning of new words. In an educational world of constructed responses, this pack is designed to give students repeated practice of writing in response to what they read as they use context clues to define new words. For each chapter, students will do the following:
*locate two vocabulary words within each chapter when given the page number
*think of a synonym that could replace the word in the text
*define the word using context clues
* support their definition using text evidence
*choose one of the vocabulary words to describe a personal connection
There is an activity page for each chapter of the book so students will have repeated practice using various vocabulary strategies and using text evidence to support their thinking.
BONUS FEATURE: There are two options included for grading student work. There is an individual chapter points chart, as well as an inclusive points chart for all of the chapters. These can be very helpful in giving students feedback on their work, reminding them of the expectations of the assignment, and as a tool to guide student work conferences along the way.
