Make the most of your chapter book read aloud time with this response to literature journal!
This reading response journal contains one comprehension question, a space for drawing a picture or visualization, and a space for a response (with dotted lines, for emphasizing handwriting) for each of the chapters of Mr. Popper's Penguins.
In my classroom, I read the discussion question aloud prior to reading the chapter, then allowed students to sketch their visualizations during and after reading, and finally asked them to respond in writing to the prompt. Each session took between 20-25 minutes, including reading, and I saw incredible writing and comprehension growth in one month's time!
