The is a comprehension packet for the book Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater. This packet breaks the book up into two to three chapter segments. For each segment, there are comprehension questions, a comprehension activity (designed to expand students' understanding of the chapters) and vocabulary words included. For each vocabulary word, students are provided with a word map so they can fully understand the meaning of the new word. The packet is designed to gradually release more responsibility to the students, so towards the last few chapters, students are instructed to find their own vocabulary words. In addition, there are two vocabulary activities included in the packet. The comprehension activities range from writing a letter form the perspective of Mr. Popper, to designing their own performing animal act, to research a country they would like to travel to. Each activity is designed to further students' understanding of the book and many help students make a personal connection.
