This product includes one sheet of 16 extension activities that students can complete with the story Mrs. Brown Went to Town from the Houghton Mifflin reading program. These are great activities for early finishers who need something useful to do! I use it in my class as "extra credit" and the students earn points for each activity that they complete. These could be used in many other ways, including literacy centers or daily classwork activities.
There are a variety of fun activities that practice grammar and language arts skills, writing skills, and spelling/vocabulary skills. Many of the activities are directly related to common core standards. I have assigned each activity a point value to use for extra credit.
Please see the sample to see specific activities that are included. Very little teacher prep is required.....print out the sheet, provide your students with blank/lined paper and a few examples and directions, and they do the rest! As far as checking in work and keeping track of points, this is a great job for a parent volunteer so you don't have any extra work to do.
Check back as I will be making these for every story in the Houghton Mifflin Reading Program Adventures and Delights anthologies.
