Everyone loves this fun story by Herbert Yee! To further extend the story, you might like this packet. It contains facts about yaks, writing about yaks, a comprehension test, dictionary (on-line) skills, and glossary practice.
The comprehension test has 20 questions and includes true/false, multiple choice (some with more than one answer), and complete the sentence questions.
The glossary questions uses the glossary in the back of the textbook. (Houghton-Mifflin Reading - California - Adventures)
I'm not sure if textbooks in the other states are the same. Does your glossary begin with the word "apartment" and end with the word "wearing?" Check out the thumbprint of the glossary page to see if it would work for you.
Fact about yaks are presented. Students need to use the facts to find the answers to questions that are asked about yaks.
There is also a page for the students to write a short report about yaks using the yak facts in the previous exercise.
The dictionary uses www.learnersdictionary.com. You would need to have access to this program to complete the two-page worksheet.
