The comic/graphic novel "Ms. Marvel" is an engaging read that introduces the reader to a charismatic young high school student, Kamala Khan, who suddenly acquires superpowers.
This activity is designed to supplement the reading of "Ms. Marvel Vol. 1: No Normal". However, the basic premise of the activity could be used for any literary character.
Students will pit the strengths and weaknesses of Kamala Khan against a fictional character of their choosing. Using a graphic organizer (read: fight card), they jot down ideas about each character.
In the end, students use their fight cards to help them persuasively write who would be the victor if the two characters were put into an arena to fight.
This activity is just a sample from the larger Ms. Marvel Unit Guide
. Check it out for more ideas as to how to integrate Ms. Marvel into the language arts classroom.
