Problem solving with polygons, fractions, area, and perimeter. Students are presented with a problem called "Ms. Wilson's Wall" and use problem solving skills to meet all the math requirements for Ms. Wilson's mural she wants to paint.
This purchase includes the problem, a grid to draw solutions, and a handout with questions for the students. It also includes an answer guide with suggestions for the teacher. There is more than 1 possible solution but I included 2 possibilities that some of my students created.
I have used variations of this problem for many years in my math classes. I've used it with 8th grade integrated math classes down to a 4th grade math support group I taught as a math specialist. This is a great problem because the average student will not come up with a solution that meets ALL the requirements right away. Students build persistence in problem solving.
