Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has been making news lately,
but this isn't the first time a volcano has erupted in the United States!

In this activity, middle school students read 4 pages introducing them to what happened at Mount St. Helens in 1980, and the aftermath that occurred. Before the reading, students are given a small map of the United States to identify where Mt. St. Helens is, and they also complete vocabulary that appears in the text. After the reading, students answer 10 text-dependent questions related to the reading.
