In my practice, we work on identifying the patterns of reading as this is the most difficult for students with Specific Language Impairments such as Dyslexia and Generalized Reading Disorders to identify in reading. This activity focuses on generating words containing word families.
See the preview for the word families contained in this activity.
Directions for use:
-Print and cut out all the pieces.; I laminated mine for added durability.
-Students add the onset (marshmallow) to the rime (hot chocolate mug), read the word and locate the picture matching the word; this also builds vocabulary skills.
-Can be used individually, groups, teams or in literacy centers.
-Also included is a black and white blank version that the students can create their own words. After creating their own word, encourage them to draw a picture of what their word means.
I hope you and your students enjoy building and reading words together!
