This Mulan Movie Viewing Guide (G - 1998) is a great way to get your students thinking about 'the reflection' that they see in the mirror. It is great for class parties or a substitute lesson plan. It is suitable for very young ages since it is rated G but will keep the attention of upper elementary students. This movie guide includes the the translated version of the original Chinese poem that the story Mulan is based on. In the last essay question, students are challenged to find similarities and differences between the poem and the movie. The movie guide consists of 10 high-level, short answer and essay questions that will do more than just ask your students to regurgitate information.
An answer key is not included as many questions are open-ended and encourage students to analyze the film. Many answers will not fit into a 'box'. Students are encouraged to construct their own meaning from the characters' dialogue and behavior.
This product includes:
A student movie guide, PDF print version (5 pages)
A student movie guide, PDF digital fillable form version (5 pages)
This digital version is intended for a paperless classroom if your students each have a tablet/iPad. Here is a method that worked for me:
1. Ask students to download a PDF editor app if they don't already have one. It needs to have a save function as well. I used Foxit PDF.
2. Host the file. I used google drive to share a folder with the students.
3. Ask students to save the file in a designated google drive folder using a naming convention. (I use LastnameFirstnameMovieGuide.pdf)
