Part of my Addition and Subtraction Unit in third grade.
These multi-step problems require students to do more than one problem to get to the solution.
This worksheet incorporates the "K-W-H" strategy, which is a 3-column chart similar to a "K-W-L" chart.
K- what do we KNOW (what information does the problem tell us?)
W-what do we WANT to know? (what is the problem asking us to do?)
H-HOW are we going to solve? (Add? Subtract? Multiply? Divide? A combination of two of these operations?)
I use this as a math-by-myself station after teaching the strategy. It walks the students through the steps to solve a KWH chart and then they practice two on their own.
