As a reading interventionist for upper elementary, most of our lessons focus on advanced vowel patterns. Advanced vowel, vowel patterns and vowel sounds are typically where students struggle, thus it is important to re-teach and then have students practice, practice, and practice.
This vowel domino game is a great way for students to practice already taught vowel sounds. In this game, students are asked to match, say and write the word and vowel patterns. For example students can math “gruesome” with “pursue” because they both share the vowel diphthong “ue” which says “oo.”
The words in this domino game are multi-syllabic, as they force students to decode and really apply what they have learned.
