Can you ever have enough practice with word problems? Even as a teacher, an adult, I love keeping my mind sharp by tackling a tricky word problem (Ok, maybe I'm just a huge nerd and I accept it)...

My students will tell you how important showing your work for word problems is. I have them decode the problem to identify the "clue words" and show their thinking with a labeled drawing, an equation, and a statement with their answer. This activity allows room for students to express their mathematical understanding in whatever ways you require! It is student-friendly and can be edited to replace names. This activity is a great way to review some tricky, multi-step word problems before a big test or as a spiral activity toward the end of your third grade experience. Your students will know that they rock word problems!
