Multicultural Literature for Social Justice & Writing: The Day You Begin
- Google Slides™
What educators are saying
The teacher guide to Jacqueline Woodson’s The Day You Begin will introduce the concept of diversity to students, illustrated through text and class activities. It will encourage them to think critically about differences they encounter and why those differences might be celebrated. They will be asked to define and locate diversity within their own classroom community in the form of activity, discussion, brainstorming, and informative/explanatory paper writing, and in alignment with the standards for a grades 3-5 writing curriculum.
Using the lesson remotely:
1. A Google Slides component is available, which may be utilized in Google Classroom and virtual learning platforms.
2. Printable worksheets are included, and are available as an option for those students in need of at-home paper packets.
