Multilingual Christmas and Hanukkah Posters

These Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah posters make a great bulletin board display in your classroom, in a hallway, or at your school’s front door! There are 26 posters that say Merry Christmas and 20 posters that say Happy Hanukkah. Each 8.5” x 11” poster presents the holiday greeting in the center of the page. In the corners, students will see the name of the country whose greeting is displayed, a map of the country, its flag, and a holiday decoration. A list of 8 ways to use these winter holiday posters to extend your students’ learning is also provided.

All the posters are 8.5” x 11” in size so they can be easily printed out.

The 26 Merry Christmas posters have a border in either red or green and present the holiday greeting 23 languages. (English and Spanish are represented by more than 1 country.)

The 20 Happy Hanukkah posters have a border in either blue or silver and present the holiday greeting in 14 languages. (English, Spanish, and German are represented by more than 1 country.)

The countries represented in this resource were selected because they have large Christian or Jewish populations and because they provide geographical diversity. Below is a list of the countries which are included in this holiday resource:

* For Christmas, the countries are:

Armenia, Brazil, China, Colombia, DPR Congo, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Moldova, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Spain, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Zambia.

* For Hanukkah, the countries are:

The extension ideas for using the posters can be done by English Language Learners at intermediate and higher levels of language proficiency as well as other students. They include graphing, drawing, reading and writing, technology, and oral history activities.
