These cards address language standards for vocabulary including understanding multiple meaning words and using context clues to define words.
The Activity Sheet Set includes ten activity sheets plus a review game for multiple meaning words.
The activities include:
Multiple Meaning Word Riddles - Students solve riddles with definitions and other clues for multiple meaning words, and they also try their hand at writing a riddle of their own.
Picture Pairs - For each question, students come up with one multiple meaning word that fits two different pictures, and then draw one set of illustrations of their own.
Parts of Speech - Given definitions, students use multiple meaning words in sentences two ways to show their use as two different parts of speech, plus a few multiple meaning words, with definitions, to unscramble.
The Same Word - Students fill in two or three blanks in a sentence wit the same word, using it's different meanings.
Color Code - Students color code a picture to show their answers to multiple meaning word questions.
Challenge Game - This is a challenge game for the whole class, divided into two or more teams, using word cards with multiple meaning words. Lots of word cards are provided.
These activities can be used for whole class practice, for differentiation for students who need more help or who are ready to do more on their own, and for review. They address language standards for understanding and using words with multiple meanings.
The Multiple Meaning Words Slide Presentation is a PowerPoint that introduces the idea of multiple words and presents lots of specific words. The slides for each word include multiple definitions and ask students to choose the correct definition to fit a picture and then to choose the correct definition to fit in sentence
A fill-in-the-blank notebook page is included which students can complete as they view the slides, and there is also a completed version of the note sheet for students who need it.
The information and exercised on these slides support the language standards to determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words.
